About
I’ve been taking photographs since I was about five years old and have always managed to have a camera close by. Photography has always been an important part of my life either for documenting events or for capturing an interesting subject or situation. Often photography has been put on the back burner as life demands took priority but as time permitted I always returned to the camera. My hobby progressed from the old box camera to the SLR 35 mm film camera with many variations as technology changed and now into the world of digital. The darkroom equipment was sold many years ago and boxes of photographs and negatives have lost their order due to several household moves but my old Pentax SLR with a very basic spot meter still sits close by today.
With more available personal time and through the use of digital photography it is possible to start again with new tools of the art. The darkroom has been replaced by a computer and provides better organization of digital files which take up less space and providing more information and detail than anyone could have imagined 20 years ago. Although I have had many different digital cameras in the last 14 years it has only been in the last two years that I have felt digital could replace my film camera. However some things have not changed. Good equipment remains expensive and the options are endless as technology improvements move faster than learning curves. The basic fundamentals are still required whether they are used in the camera, darkroom or computer and the art of photography remains interesting and challenging.
